This is the note Rachel would leave for me on the dining room table each time she would be gone to Swain's Lock. Swain's Lock is a Lock on The C&O Canal near Potomac, Maryland. It is also near the Potomac River.
Last June 11th we had a Gathering at the River there for her. She had been the President of the C&O Canal Association for many years and also a Canal Steward who took care of cleaning up Swain's Lock.
The U.S. Park Service can not afford to pick up the trash all along the C&O Canal so they depend on volunteers to pick up and remove the trash left behind by hikers and campers who do not clean up after themselves.
Click on the Label Swain's Lock in the Labels box below this post to read more about Swain's Lock by Rachel and see some photos.
Today is also the one year anniversary of the funeral service that was held for Rachel at a funeral home in old town Alexandria.
Below are some pictures of Rachel and her friends doing the thing she loved the most being in the outdoors and hiking.
