I never listened to soaps on the radio in the 1940s and 50s but in
high school from 1956 to 1958 I used to watch The Edge Of Night and other soap operas when I came
home from school in the afternoon. The soaps were done live then and in
black and white on TV.
And they were real simple. Usually the sets were just a living room and kitchen. Both very middle or low class.
Nothing fancy.
Two people would sit in the kitchen and talk about relationships and drink coffee.
Then one would say at some point "Do you want some more coffee?"
That was about it.
And
I liked that it was live. Sometimes the old actors and actresses would
forget their lines. And they would sometime bump into the furniture.
