C&O CANAL ART WORK MAKES ITS DEBUT

Original artwork commissioned by the C&O Canal Association made its
debut earlier this month in Cumberland. Park officials unveiled the painting by internationally  known
artist Mark Stutzman at the annual Heritage Days Festival June 11. The image pays tribute to the rich history, nature, and wildlife of the C&O Canal to celebrate the National Park Service Centennial.
Association member Francis “Champ” Zumbrun came up with the idea for the project after working with Mark on a similar effort in honor of the Casselman River Bridge bicentennial. Champ worked with Barbara Sheridan, then president of the association.
You can buy an 18" x 24" poster version of the artwork at the association's on-line store, http://candocanal.org/store.html. The price is $11. A postcard version is also available for $2.
The original painting is currently on display at the Cumberland Visitor Center, where it will remain through mid-August. The painting will then move to the Williamsport Visitor Center where it will be on exhibit for Williamsport Days festival in late August. Beginning with the Park After Dark event September 17, the painting will be displayed at Great Falls Tavern
