I went to take a look but did not buy the collection because it was scratched and uninteresting. All the good things were long gone. But I was there when the Washington Post Reporter was there or at least the photographer was there and asked me to pose with a library employee for a picture. And that is how I got my picture in The Washington Post on April 7th, 1999.

Rachel And Joe In Southampton One Year Ago.....August 2013
These photos were taken by Rachel Stewart last August 2013.
This is the picture I was really looking for. I can't remember if I took this picture of Rachel myself or if she did it herself with her own camera and timer. Click on these pictures to enlarge them.
One year ago today Rachel and I left our home in Arlington Virginia to go to Southampton on Long Island to house sit for Ray and Tara while they were away on vacation. Lucky us. The book I am reading in the top photo is a memoir by Willie Morris about his friend James Jones. It is titled "A FRIENDSHIP".
Willie Morris lived in Sagaponack back in the 1970s and so did James Jones.
I had no way of knowing how special this vacation for us would become. Along with her 3 weeks in the South of France in September with her C&O Canal friends and their World Canal Conference these were some of her last really good days.
We did go to Sanibel Island in Jan. 2014 as we always did for the last 15 years but she was suddenly much sicker then. Still we had no idea how bad it really was. Not until we got back to Va. and she went in the Northern Va. Hospital in Arlington, Va and had the biopsy on Feb. 10th and we got the results on Feb. 13 that it was mesothelioma. A deadly fatal lung cancer caused by exposure to asbestos which could have occurred 30 or 40 years ago.
They told us she might live 3 to 6 months. That was very wrong. She died on March 8th, 2014. Only 18 days after we left the hospital. It was like losing her in a car wreck or train wreck or airplane crash.
It was too sudden. And too terrible.
So I want to post some photos from one year ago August 2013. A far happier time. She was ill but we did not know just how ill. I later said we had been living in a fool's paradise. I meant we thought she would live along time with what she had been diagnosed in Feb. 2013 as having(pulmonary fibrosis).
We never heard the word mesothelioma or lung cancer until Feb.13th 2014. It was a heart breaking diagnosis.

Cut and paste the above link in Yahoo or Google search to read about this forthcoming book due out in September.
This will be the real insiders story told by Victor Maymudes Bob's friend and road manager from the early days.
Search on this blog for more on Victor Maymudes and Bob Dylan.
Here is the book as shown on Amazon.com

And here is my post about Bob Dylan at Mardi Gras in New Orleans in Feb. 1964.
Search blogspot.com tally ho!...search bob dylan mardi gras 1964.
My material was used by Robert Shelton in his bio of Dylan titled NO DIRECTION HOME.
Now I see from reading pages in this book Jacob Maymudes has also used my material about that Mardi Gras in his book. He used my quotes as well. I told him a year ago he could use my material if he would give me credit. But he has put my words in his father's telling of the events of that Mardi Gras. He ripped me and my words off. And he does not give me credit.
Instead he changed some few things and got many of the facts wrong.
Compare the quotes in this new book with what I wrote back in 2009
.
Plus I have much more detailed information on Bob Dylan at that Mardi Gras. Look at my blog post for the real true story of what went on at that Mardi Gras 1964.

You can also click on the Label Mardi Gras 1964 Bob Dylan in the Label box below to find my posts about that time and place. And click on the Label No Direction Home to read what I and Robert Shelton wrote in his book of that same name. And you will clearly see where Jacob Maymudes stole my words and writings and put them in his book claiming they came from his father's tapes.
I challenge him to provide audio tapes of his father saying those words.

Rachel Lefebure and Joe B. Stewart at the Rice Hotel in DeKalb Illinois March 1965
Click on the picture above to enlarge it.
This picture was taken in the Rice Hotel in DeKalb, Illinois in March 1965. That is Joe B. Stewart looking at Rachel Lefebure and already falling in love. Little did he know that she would be his wife for 49 years. Little did she know that either.
I don't know who took the picture but whoever took it thank you very much.
At the top it says April 1965. It would have been developed then in New Orleans shortly after Rachel and I got there.
